This table, made from reclaimed cedar, was a project born from necessity. I have always enjoyed working with wood, so I took on this project to make something for my home. I wanted the design to be simple and attainable, something that could be easily deconstructed and put back together, Ikea-ish.
I made the table at my parents' home in Austin, Texas. The wood was found at an estate sale, originally part of an old cabinet. I reclaimed the material and designed a simple two-level table. The top level is not screwed or glued, but instead wedged into the three arms. This was the most difficult part of the process, as the fit needed to be exact to ensure the table was straight and sturdy.
The finishing process was minimal: light finishing oil and meticulous sanding. This piece marks the beginning of the functional art I hope to create. It still lives in my home, and I use it every day.
