This sculpture is an exploration of material, shape, and tension. Made from cheap 2" x 3"s, it uses industrially produced wood that has been forced into rigid, standardized forms. That imposed rigidity is then used to remake the material back into an organic form. Although now it stands in opposition, twisted, strained, and resisting its own construction.
The wood that is deliberately pushed beyond its natural state is re-glued, screwed, and bent back through extrusion and manipulation. The addition of the chain, hanging like Spanish moss just above the ground, adds to this tension, reasserting the forced contradiction between the organic and inorganic.
